Awards and travel grants for students and young researchers

One of the underlying objectives of ABTS Inc is to assist students and young researchers in developing their career path with the Australian barley industry. 

Three Award/Grant schemes will be available through the 14th ABTS. 

  • “Future of Australian Barley Research” travel grants for bona fide students to attend and present at the 14th ABTS
  • The Paul Johnston Trust Award for students/researchers less than 30 years of age
  • ABTS Inc Barley Research Incentive Award for students/researchers less than 35 years of age. 

The Paul Johnston and Barley Research Incentive Awards will be judged and presented at the 14th ABTS.  Eligible students and researchers are asked to contact the Conference Organizers for further details.


Criteria for judging the Paul Johnston Memorial Trust Award
Criteria for the Paul Johnston Memorial Award are given below.  Nominees are to be evaluated on their written and poster/oral presentations under the following guidelines.  Personal interviews may be held to finalise selection.

  1. Scientist under 30 years of age on 1 January of the year following the Australian Barley Technical Symposium.
  2. Originality/Innovation of research 
  3. Scientific merit
  4. Presentation 
  5. Industry impact
  6. Knowledge of the Australian barley industry
